New Laboratory Connects Industry, Government and Academia for
Scientific Achievement, and Technology Collaboration
BLOOMINGTON, IN – Warrant Technologies, LLC, announced today the creation of an innovation lab in downtown Bloomington.
Thinker Labs, located in Bloomington’s Fountain Square Mall, will initially focus on research and development (R&D) in Artificial Intelligence (AI), leveraging cutting-edge technologies to create data-driven, intelligent and robust systems for automation.
“This is an exciting addition to Warrant’s portfolio of capabilities” said Michael Norris, CEO of Warrant Technologies. “We see this as a logical next step in our growth as a company to focus on research in areas of keen interest to our customer base and provide an environment where local researchers can thrive and collaborate.”
A true win-win situation, the state-of-the-art lab provides facility, technology, and support that allowes researchers to investigate real-world industry problems while generating the science necessary for publication and advanced degrees. Additionally, academics gain first-hand industry experience directly related to their field of study. In short, Thinker Labs closes the gap between the worlds of industry, academia, and government.
Currently, Derek Whitley, an Indiana University Bloomington PhD candidate in Complex Systems (School of Informatics) and Cognitive Science (Brain and Psychological Sciences) and a Senior Engineer for Warrant Technologies, is working on the lab’s first project: a phase one grant from NASA’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The research, entitled, “Deep Neural Net and Neuromorphic Processors for In-Space Autonomy and Cognition,” is directly aligned with Whitley’s PhD thesis research.
Additional lab research opportunities are currently being explored in a variety of relevant areas, including: semantic knowledge graphs, real-time domestic terrorism detection, quantum modeling, GPS-denied location and navigation, carbon-capture, and renewable energy.
